Support a Marine Plan and strong Marine Act for Tasmania
I love Tasmania’s oceans and I am concerned about the decline in the health of our marine environment. I urge you to implement a new strong TASMANIAN INTEGRATED MARINE ESTATE ACT and a MARINE PLAN FOR TASMANIA that will: - Sustainably manage our marine environment in balance with thriving coastal communities and our unique island lifestyle - Manage activities in the ocean space while considering their cumulative impact on the marine environment - Prioritise healthy oceans through ecosystem-based management and marine spatial planning. - Give a voice to the community using a meaningful consultation tools such as Co-Design - Recognise First Nation’s Tasmanians’ rights to marine resources and inclusion in marine planning - Address impacts to our oceans from climate change, such as the invasive Long-spined sea urchin, and, - Accelerate Tasmania’s transition away from fossil fuels including gas. Tasmania is the only state that has not yet committed to a Marine Plan. A good Marine Plan makes for healthy oceans and healthy communities. I am Rising Up for Tasmania’s Oceans are you?
